Who we are...
The Thrift Shop was started in 1932 when the women of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines, NC gathered to raise funds for a rectory and help people during the Depression.
The Thrift Shop leased space for its operation and had to move to four different locations in downtown Southern Pines. In 1987 a more permanent location was needed. As a result of the efforts of many volunteers and several families of the church, the present store location was purchased and deeded to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in 1990.
The shop is owned by the church however it is operated by an independent board of directors that reports its activities to the church. All proceeds go to the benefit of those in need in the Moore County area.
The shop is entirely dependent on donations from church members and the community at large. Items are priced at bargain rates and as a result our shoppers are bargain hunters, from all walks of life, who recognize the benefit of supporting the Thrift Shop’s mission.
We accept clean and odor free clothing in good condition. Household items, dinner ware, decorative items, small appliances all in clean working condition when applicable. Linens, shop tools, gardening items. We accept small furniture, pictures, lamps, small tables, etc.
Shoes, books, games and small toys.
Financial donations are always appreciated.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT large furniture, television sets, large stereo equipment, books in poor condition, encyclopedias, text books, Readers Digest books.
We no longer sell men's suits.
"When in doubt throw it out" - we would have to do the same.
The shop is run by a staff of dedicated volunteers with the sole purpose of donating to those in need in the Moore County area. All profits stay in Moore County.
